NEXT WAVE OF AUSTRALIAN FILMMAKING TALENT IS ABOUT TO BREAK

 PENINSULA FILM FESTIVAL

FEBRUARY 3-5, 2023

The Peninsula Film Festival, presented by Lexus of Brighton, returns in 2023 with a stellar three-day program next month featuring the star-studded short film festival at Rosebud Village Green, Mornington Peninsula.

The 12th Peninsula Film Festival will run from February 3-5 and open with the screening of the newly released movie Poker Face, starring and directed by Russell Crowe. Other stars of the film including festival director Steve Bastoni and festival judge Dan Macpherson will be in attendance for a Q&A at the Peninsula Cinemas Rosebud on Friday, February 3.

Then on Saturday, February 4, Australia’s largest outdoor film festival returns to the Rosebud Village Green after a two-year absence.

Some of Australia’s finest film and television actors including Dan MacPherson, Lachy Hulme, Michala Banas, Chrissie Swan, Georgina Haig, and acclaimed screenwriter Shaun Grant, will be among the personalities supporting the industry’s up-and-coming talent, with directors, producers and actors showcasing their film-making skills and competing for up to $30,000 in cash and prizes.

The short film festival, proudly supported by VicScreen sees up to 20 shortlisted films screened, in additional categories including Best Animation, Best Documentary, Best International and the Woodleigh School Emerging Filmmaker Award.

There will be food trucks, local wine, beer vendors and market stalls for patrons on the Village Green, plus a live performance from one of Australia’s leading musicians, Mornington Peninsula’s very own Matilda Pearl, a regular on Triple J Unearthed.

Festival founder and director, Steve Bastoni, said: “This event gets bigger and bigger each year. The Peninsula Film Festival is now in its twelfth year and has become a staple of the arts and culture calendar on the peninsula.

“We are all excited to unearth our next generation of filmmaking talent. Many of our previous winners have gone on to forge amazing careers at home and abroad.

“It’s wonderful to again have such strong support from an array of Australian actors who love attending this event.”

In 2023, Nova Radio’s Chrissie Swan, who for 20 years has graced Australian television screens and airwaves, will be joining the judging panel for the first time.

“This year I am honoured to have been asked to be a judge for the Peninsula Film Festival alongside an unbelievable list of creative geniuses. It’s such a glorious Victorian event and I can’t wait to be part of this wonderful weekend on the peninsula, celebrating film and entertainment and seeing the talented short filmmakers show their skills while also discovering new Australian cinema talent,” Swan said.

The festival will conclude on Sunday, February 5, with a filmmaking workshop where people in attendance can get expert advice on making their own short films in a hands-on session with some of Australia’s leading film makers.

Victorian Government is a strong supporter of the Peninsula Film Festival, Australia’s largest outdoor film festival, encouraging locals and visitors to be part of this special three-day event.

General admission Peninsula Film Festival tickets start at just $10, with all age groups welcome. Tickets are available to purchase via peninsulafilmfestival.com.au.
